I started making these pen and marker drawing in 2016 as warm up exercises. They are relatively quick and have a distinct automatic drawing quality to them that is central to their life force. The fifteen cell structure became a vehicle for both narrative exploration and image repetition/variation strategies.

These drawing have led to most of my recent etchings, including the ongoing The Finals series and the completed Sign of The Times project. The drawings are ongoing and a good batch of them can be found in the book Chestnuts available in the store.

Depicted here are both the front and back of the drawings. The recognized value of the reversed bleed through images plays upon the imagery’s surrealist spirit.
